I use around 200 words with a 4% density on a site that manages to display very targeted ads, and consequently produces really high CTR and a very handsome low three digit eCPM.

Also, in my opinion the mediapartners bot prefers to “see� a couple of keyphrases so I always target say “striped blue widgets� 2.5%, “blue widgets� by itself around 3.5% and 1% or so of “blue striped widgets� while all the time target is really “blue widgets�.

I use the keyword density of the top ten sites in the SERP for the “keyword” I want it usually hovers around 3.2% to 4.5% but I have seen 2.9% and over 6%.
